How eBay UK Fees Work on Trading Cards
| Fee | What You Pay |
|---|---|
| Final value fee | 10.9% of item and postage |
| Regulatory operating fee | 0.35% |
| VAT on eBay's fees for a business seller | 20% (13.5% in all) |
| Per-order fee with VAT | 12p up to £10 and 48p above |
On a low-dollar card the per-order fee hurts more than the percentage. A £1.00 card with no shipping charge loses about £0.26 to eBay fees before postage. Selling several cards in one order spreads that fee, which is why the calculator takes a quantity.
Postage starts at £1.55 an order and supplies at £0.11, the starting numbers PowerList TCG uses for eBay UK. Put in your own; nobody's shipping costs are the same.
A Worked Example on eBay UK
| Line | 1 Card | 3 Cards |
|---|---|---|
| Cost Per Card | £1.35 | £1.35 |
| Total Sale | £1.35 | £4.05 |
| Shipping Charged to Buyer | £1.55 | £1.55 |
| Postage and Supplies | −£1.66 | −£1.66 |
| eBay Fees | −£0.51 | −£0.88 |
| Your Card Cost | −£0.08 | −£0.24 |
| You Keep | £0.65 | £2.82 |
| Per Card | £0.65 | £0.94 |
One £1.35 card sells with £1.55 shipping charged to the buyer, the same as the postage. eBay takes 13.5% of £2.90, which is £0.39, plus the £0.12 per-order fee: £0.51 in fees. Take off £1.55 postage, £0.11 supplies and £0.08 for the card, and you keep £0.65.
Sell three of those cards to the same buyer and the picture changes. The shipping charge, the postage and the per-order fee each happen once. Fees come to £0.88 and you keep £2.82, or £0.94 a card. Put your own numbers in the calculator above to see your version.
Ways to Keep More of Each Card Sale
- Get more cards into each order. The per-order fee and the postage are paid once per order, so a buyer who takes three cards costs you far less per card than three buyers who take one.
- Know your break-even price. The calculator shows the lowest price that still covers fees, postage and the card. Under it, a sale loses money however good it feels.
- Compare your own store. Shopify, WooCommerce and Square charge card processing instead of a selling fee, from 1.4% to 2% at their standard online rates in United Kingdom, against eBay's 13.5%. Your plan and payment method change the real rate. Compare All shows the same sale on each one; the trade-off is finding your own buyers.
eBay Fees on Trading Cards: Common Questions
Straight answers on eBay UK fees for card sellers.
How much does eBay UK charge to sell trading cards?
A business seller pays a 10.9% final value fee and a 0.35% regulatory operating fee on the item and postage, and eBay adds 20% VAT to its fees: 13.5% in all. On top of that comes a per-order fee of 12p on orders up to £10 and 48p above, VAT included.
Does eBay UK take its fee from postage too?
Yes. The fee is a percentage of the item price plus the postage the buyer pays. eBay adds no sales tax to a UK domestic sale, so the sales tax field starts at 0.
What is eBay UK's per-order fee?
For Collectables, which covers trading cards, 10p on orders up to £10 and 40p above, plus 20% VAT for a business seller: 12p and 48p. It is charged once per order however many cards are in it.
Do private sellers pay eBay UK fees?
A private seller pays no final value fee on eBay UK; the buyer pays a Buyer Protection fee instead. Set the eBay fee to 0 under Marketplace Rates if that is you. If you are VAT registered and claim the VAT back, the rate before VAT is 11.25%.
Does the Top Rated Seller discount lower eBay UK fees?
Yes, by 10% of the final value fee on Premium Service listings: free delivery within 3 working days, an express option for £10 or less, tracking on items of £20 and up, and 30-day returns. It never comes off the per-order fee. The calculator takes it off the 10.9% final value fee, so 13.5% with VAT becomes about 12.19%.
How do Shopify, WooCommerce and Square compare?
They charge card processing, not a selling fee. The calculator starts with the standard rates in United Kingdom: Shopify Payments 2.0% + £0.25, WooPayments 1.5% + £0.25 and Square 1.4% + £0.25 online. Your plan or gateway may differ, so change them under Marketplace Rates. Compare All lines up the same sale on every one of them.
Does this include Promoted Listings?
No. If you pay for Promoted Listings, add your ad rate to the eBay fee percent under Marketplace Rates for a close estimate.
Does an eBay Shop lower the fee on trading cards?
Not on eBay UK. Cards pay the same 10.9% final value fee at every Shop level; a Shop buys free listings and cheaper insertion fees. Basic gives 250 free listings a month for £27 plus VAT, Featured 1,500 for £77 and Anchor unlimited for £437.
Is anything I type saved?
No. The calculator runs in your browser. Nothing you type is sent anywhere or stored.
How is this different from the Fee Calculator in PowerList TCG?
It is the same math. Inside PowerList TCG the Fee Calculator can fill in your real postage, shipping charge and card cost from your last 90 days of sales, and Analytics uses eBay's real fees on every order you sold.
