How eBay US Fees Work on Trading Cards
| Fee | What You Pay |
|---|---|
| Final value fee with no eBay Store | 13.25% of the total sale |
| Final value fee with a Basic Store or higher | 12.35% of the total sale |
| Per-order fee | $0.30 up to $10 and $0.40 above |
| Fee charged on | Card, shipping and sales tax |
On a low-dollar card the per-order fee hurts more than the percentage. A $1.00 card with no shipping charge loses about $0.44 to eBay fees before postage. Selling several cards in one order spreads that fee, which is why the calculator takes a quantity.
Postage starts at $0.78 an order and supplies at $0.15, the starting numbers PowerList TCG uses for eBay US. Put in your own; nobody's shipping costs are the same.
A Worked Example on eBay US
| Line | 1 Card | 3 Cards |
|---|---|---|
| Cost Per Card | $1.35 | $1.35 |
| Total Sale | $1.35 | $4.05 |
| Shipping Charged to Buyer | $0.78 | $0.78 |
| Postage and Supplies | −$0.93 | −$0.93 |
| eBay Fees | −$0.60 | −$0.98 |
| Your Card Cost | −$0.10 | −$0.30 |
| You Keep | $0.50 | $2.62 |
| Per Card | $0.50 | $0.87 |
One $1.35 card sells with $0.78 shipping charged to the buyer, the same as the postage, and 6% sales tax on top. eBay takes 13.25% of $2.26, which is $0.30, plus the $0.30 per-order fee: $0.60 in fees. Take off $0.78 postage, $0.15 supplies and $0.10 for the card, and you keep $0.50.
Sell three of those cards to the same buyer and the picture changes. The shipping charge, the postage and the per-order fee each happen once. Fees come to $0.98 and you keep $2.62, or $0.87 a card. Put your own numbers in the calculator above to see your version.
Ways to Keep More of Each Card Sale
- Get more cards into each order. The per-order fee and the postage are paid once per order, so a buyer who takes three cards costs you far less per card than three buyers who take one.
- Know your break-even price. The calculator shows the lowest price that still covers fees, postage and the card. Under it, a sale loses money however good it feels.
- Check whether an eBay Store pays for itself. A Store cuts the trading card rate from 13.25% to 12.35%. On $1,000 of sales a month that is $9.00 back; compare it with what the Store costs you.
- Compare your own store. Shopify, WooCommerce and Square charge card processing instead of a selling fee, from 2.9% to 3.3% at their standard online rates in United States, against eBay's 13.25%. Your plan and payment method change the real rate. Compare All shows the same sale on each one; the trade-off is finding your own buyers.
eBay Fees on Trading Cards: Common Questions
Straight answers on eBay US fees for card sellers.
How much does eBay charge to sell trading cards?
13.25% of the total sale without an eBay Store, or 12.35% with a Basic Store or higher, plus $0.30 an order of $10 or less and $0.40 above. The total sale is the card, the shipping the buyer pays and the sales tax eBay collects. A card over $7,500 (or $2,500 with a Store) pays 2.35% on the part above that; the calculator uses the main rate.
Does eBay take its fee from shipping and sales tax too?
Yes. eBay's final value fee is a percentage of the total amount of the sale: the card, the shipping and the sales tax eBay collects from the buyer. That is why the calculator asks for a sales tax rate. It starts at 6%; your buyers' states decide the real one.
What is eBay's per-order fee?
$0.30 on an order of $10 or less and $0.40 on an order over $10, once per order however many cards are in it. Selling three cards in one order pays it once, which is why the calculator takes a quantity.
Should I use the eBay Store rate?
Only if you pay for a Basic eBay Store or higher. Trading cards then pay 12.35% instead of 13.25%, and Basic gives 11,000 free card listings a month instead of 250. Pick your level under eBay Store. A Starter Store pays the same 13.25% as no Store.
Does the Top Rated Seller discount lower eBay fees on cards?
Yes, by 10% of the percentage fee on listings that qualify as Top Rated Plus, which means same or 1-business-day handling. Trading cards keep the discount without offering free returns. It never comes off the per-order fee, so 13.25% becomes 11.925% and 12.35% with a Store becomes 11.115%. Tick Top Rated Seller Discount to see it.
How do Shopify, WooCommerce and Square compare?
They charge card processing, not a selling fee. The calculator starts with the standard rates in United States: Shopify Payments 2.9% + $0.30, WooPayments 2.9% + $0.30 and Square 3.3% + $0.30 online. Your plan or gateway may differ, so change them under Marketplace Rates. Compare All lines up the same sale on every one of them.
Does this include Promoted Listings?
No. If you pay for Promoted Listings, add your ad rate to the eBay fee percent under Marketplace Rates for a close estimate.
Is anything I type saved?
No. The calculator runs in your browser. Nothing you type is sent anywhere or stored.
How is this different from the Fee Calculator in PowerList TCG?
It is the same math. Inside PowerList TCG the Fee Calculator can fill in your real postage, shipping charge and card cost from your last 90 days of sales, and Analytics uses eBay's real fees on every order you sold.
