How eBay Australia Fees Work on Trading Cards
| Fee | What You Pay |
|---|---|
| Final value fee on Pro Starter | 13.4% of the total sale with GST included |
| Above AU$4,000 per item | 2.5% on the part above |
| Per-order fee | AU$0.30 on every order |
| Fee charged on | Card and postage |
On a low-dollar card the per-order fee hurts more than the percentage. A AU$1.00 card with no shipping charge loses about AU$0.43 to eBay fees before postage. Selling several cards in one order spreads that fee, which is why the calculator takes a quantity.
Postage starts at AU$3.70 an order and supplies at AU$0.22, the starting numbers PowerList TCG uses for eBay Australia. Put in your own; nobody's shipping costs are the same.
A Worked Example on eBay Australia
| Line | 1 Card | 3 Cards |
|---|---|---|
| Cost Per Card | AU$1.35 | AU$1.35 |
| Total Sale | AU$1.35 | AU$4.05 |
| Shipping Charged to Buyer | AU$3.70 | AU$3.70 |
| Postage and Supplies | −AU$3.92 | −AU$3.92 |
| eBay Fees | −AU$0.98 | −AU$1.34 |
| Your Card Cost | −AU$0.14 | −AU$0.42 |
| You Keep | AU$0.01 | AU$2.07 |
| Per Card | AU$0.01 | AU$0.69 |
One AU$1.35 card sells with AU$3.70 shipping charged to the buyer, the same as the postage. eBay takes 13.4% of AU$5.05, which is AU$0.68, plus the AU$0.30 per-order fee: AU$0.98 in fees. Take off AU$3.70 postage, AU$0.22 supplies and AU$0.14 for the card, and you keep AU$0.01.
Sell three of those cards to the same buyer and the picture changes. The shipping charge, the postage and the per-order fee each happen once. Fees come to AU$1.34 and you keep AU$2.07, or AU$0.69 a card. Put your own numbers in the calculator above to see your version.
Ways to Keep More of Each Card Sale
- Get more cards into each order. The per-order fee and the postage are paid once per order, so a buyer who takes three cards costs you far less per card than three buyers who take one.
- Know your break-even price. The calculator shows the lowest price that still covers fees, postage and the card. Under it, a sale loses money however good it feels.
- Compare your own store. Shopify, WooCommerce and Square charge card processing instead of a selling fee, from 1.7% to 2.2% at their standard online rates in Australia, against eBay's 13.4%. Your plan and payment method change the real rate. Compare All shows the same sale on each one; the trade-off is finding your own buyers.
